The best place to buy IR gear in Europe

This is my submission for the IR EU ambassadorship.

I’m Tom Drake, currently in my first year ‘studying’ medicine at the University of Sheffield in the UK. In my pretend student life I paddle lots, dress up lots and have a hat, I’m currently captain at the best canoe club in the world (university of sheffield) which lets me get out on the water at least three times a week and stared at by members of the unsuspecting public whilst walking down the street dressed in paddling gear and wearing a skirt and meeting loads of new people.

I would like to think I’d do my best as an IR ambassador, attend many competitions (like the NSR!!!- I’ll even wear gear to the party if you want….) and get out on the water and have a great time whilst also running a tricky river or nailing a huge move. As far as IR sponsored paddlers go I’m no EJ (although I have twenty odd years to go) but I have equally as much of a keeno attitude to paddling and hopefully that shows.

I’m stopping there as it’s beginning to sound a tad cheesy!

I already keep a regular blog (www.aerialfreestyle.wordpress.com), so I’d happily contribute as much as I could to the IR blog!

My name is Hugh Graham, I currently live in Exeter in the UK, where I study Physical Geography at University.

Here are a couple of video’s from my last season in Norway: The first, edited by my mate Finn, is of the first descent of a big slide that we stumbled across. The second (the one we posted here) is an edit of mine summarizing the last week or so in Norway, enjoying good company and Sunshine!

I am John O’Rourke, a very enthuasiastic, motivated, innovative, 21 year old kayaker and canoeist from the Irish midlands. I am currently studying environmental science in the University of Limerick. I have been paddling for nearly 11 years now and in recent years I feel my river running, freestyle and kayak surfing skills have improved rapidly. In the last few years I have traveled a lot for kayaking both here and abroad with some of the best paddlers in the world and this has inspired me to keep training at the sport I love so much.

Hi All, my name is Jake Boswell. I am 16 years old and am a keen Whitewater Kayaker from Leicester in England. I started paddling properly in summer 2009 when I started competing in whitewater kayak slalom. I have since reached Division 2 and am ranked at No.37. I started paddling freestyle in summer 2010 and have since been having lessons with BKS coaching. I am keen to start competing in as many freestyle competitions as I can as it is starting to become my real passion. I am also a BCU Level 1 coach and coach at my local club and am hoping to achieve Level 2 by the end of the summer. I am also starting more advanced level river running and looking to start creekboating throughout this year. My dream paddling destination is the White Nile in Uganda and I plan to head there within the next year or so!

My name is Seth Ashworth, 21 years old from the UK.  Currently a student but just about to graduate in to a career as a full time kayak bum.  I am currently involved in many different disciplines of paddling both competitively and recreationally, this includes playboating, squirt boating, creeking and slalom.  And will be representing the UK at the 2011 ICF Freestyle worlds, in a squirt kayak and 2011 Sickline race.

I have an enthusiastic, positive attitude toward paddling.   It is my whole life and i try to paddle as often, as possible, wherever possible, in whatever type of boat I can.  In the near future I am moving to Austria for the European Summer then on to South America for the European Winter.  My future is in Paddling both competitively and recreationally and it would be great to have IR along on that journey.  Don’t forget to check out my website www.sethashworth.co.uk

Hi!
I`m Pablo Morales Infante, I`m 23 years old and I´m already 4 rowing. After every travel to do rivers I come back to Mollet del Valles (Barcelona, Spain) where I was born, because since I started to use kayak I don´t have a fix place to stay, and for me that is the best of kayak, every day I have more passion for this sport that make me feel like travelling to know new rivers, new countries and new people.

I have already rowing in few rivers in Spain, Freestyle in France, in the Uganda´s Nile, in a section from IV in Thailand and since 6 months ago I´m doing the North Portugal´s rivers. My next destiny: Norway!

I just wanted to add that I have these cameras since February of this year and all videos are converted to lower quality to edit with windows movie maker.
if not understood, in the middle of the video says: ”GARGANTA EM CHEIA” in Portuguese, means ”throat flood” in English, and if you look closely at the names of the rapids are the same but with different flow rates.

This video is the beginning of a large video about all rivers I did in this travel in Portugal, a creek´s paradise!

My name is Jason Raper. I live in Scarborough North Yorkshire so naturally surf boating has been a definite influence on my paddling for years. However my true passion is for creek boating. I love getting out there on what ever river the day offers but my top River must be the Upper Swale or Inn Shoot Austria
For me Kayaking is not just about the paddling but getting out there with a good group of mates from all over the country and just enjoying yourself, be that on a river, in the surf, at a play spot or at various competitions both on an assisting and competing level.

Charles is stepping it up a bit with an revised entry specifically for this contest.

IR in Powder

Well, the weather in Austria can´t really decide. On the one hand you have spring like days with 15 degrees and sun and on the other hand pretty cold days and new snow. I decided to leave my kayak in the garage and take my skis out for a 7 week holiday trip to beautiful Mayrhofen in the valley of Zillertal in Austria.

Some single powder days showed me that it was a good choice and I´m pretty happy. The problem is, that these powder days are most of the time very cold so I tried a piece of gear that I usually only wear while kayaking in cold conditions – the IR Union Suit.

Guys, I can tell you, this thing works out really good. The Gore-Tex clothing is so cosy and warm that I don´t need any extra layering. So l don´t have the feeling of beeing unable to move because of to many clothes.

Another advantage  is the material. The fleece transports moisture really good to the outside, so the body always feels dry and warm even during breaks while you sit and relax.

There is only one disadvantage. You always have to fight against your girlfriend who tries get my suit for herself. So the best idea is to stand up earlier or just sleep in it to be the one who gets it the next morning. :-)

I can imagine a lot of more sports where the Union Suit would perform perfect. Just try it out.

Cheers Timo
