Evan was nice enough to send us a review of our Lucky Charm skirt this week. As many of you know, Evan is one of the most accomplished big water kayakers in the world today- if you’re not familiar with Evan, make sure to check out his website. In any case, we’re really proud that Evan chooses IR skirts, and we’re especially happy to know that they’re living up to his high expectations. We’ll let Evan take it from here:

Serious class V whitewater paddling is a very dangerous and demanding sport. Not only for the person, but for the users gear as well. To be completely successful and safe you not only have to rely on your personal skill and experience, but at a certain point, the gear you are using as well.
I am a big drop connoisseur, it is my favorite part of the sport of kayaking. In my mind the most essential piece of gear for a good success rate off stouts (big drops) is a good functional spray skirt. For a long time I would stand on top of a drop scouting and look for a plan B in case my skirt imploded at the base of the falls. This was very problematic when wanting to step it up and run something that really scared you or had consequences down stream. It was just another factor to add to the already long list of dangers while hucking meat.

About a year ago from today I was introduced to a new line of IR spray skirts called “The Lucky Charm”. The Lucky Charm is just what its name implies! My swim count has gone down two fold since I started using this deck and I will never go back to another brand. I ran 20+ different big drop over 50 feet in 2010 and never had my deck pop. (minus a few savage ejections “personal errors” hahaha)

Not to say that it “can’t happen”, but I feel much more confident running something big above something else big…This Spray Skirt has completely changed up my game!

I am writing this letter from big drop paradise Pucon, Chile. Most the boys have been using various IR decks and I have noted the difference immensely. We are running everything more often and at higher more powerful flows…with a greater success rate…it’s progression, both skill wise and gear oriented. If you haven’t got on the band wagon and tried an IR deck for yourself, you may never know the joy of having true confidence in your gear. Take it from the Demshitz boys when it comes to big drops, swims and implosions…IR skirts help and will 100% improve your class V game.
